Animating Ptolemy's Equant with Python, SVG, and CSS (rhodesmill.org)

The models themselves are extremely fascinating: https://rhodesmill.org/ptolemy/inner-planets.html

When I was working through Ptolemy, I did some of this in Blender to visualize things like the phases of the moon as predicted by these models.

SVG animations are a lot of fun. I really like this puzzlehunt puzzle that makes use of them: https://2021.teammatehunt.com/puzzles/time-of-your-life

(fair warning: puzzlehunt puzzles tend to be essentially unsolvable if you aren't familiar with the conventions of how they work. this one is no exception. there is a link to the solution at the top)

Running on my Mac and Safari, I can execute the first couple examples and see the static images they produce but the ones that are supposed to be animated, don't animate. Other than an initial message the %pyplot inline is deprecated in favor of %matplotlib inline, there haven't been any errors reported. This article is a couple years old but things shouldn't have morphed enough to break it. Any thoughts on why it isn't animating?

Just ran it with Chrome and everything appears to work so it must be something with Safari. I am running an older version of Safari because Apple stopped supplying updates to my older Macbook. I have been encountering other sites that reject Safari because they declare it too old. Must be that.

Nice! Not sure why but the single bezier animation is completely borked on ff mobile. Three beziers looks great though
